I feel incredibly fortunate for the women that make up my circle. I wouldn't be the woman I am today without each and every one of them. I do want to be a strong and independent woman. However, the bonds of sisterhood and friendship are so necessary to the soul. We talk about how it takes a village to raise a child. But in reality, as adults we still need the village. We still need community.

My whole life I have struggled feeling like I belonged to a community, a people. I have consistently tried to make my star shaped self fit into a square hole. No amount of pushing, squeezing, wishing, and pleading will ever make me fit in a space I do not belong, even if I think I belong there. It's a hard lesson to learn and grieve. But when you realize that there are spaces for your star shaped self to fit into, spaces you truly belong and are needed, where you can flourish and thrive, it doesn't feel as difficult or sad anymore.

Too often in life we think we know what we need. And when the universe tries to show us something better we shy away and even reject it. I know I did for a long time. I was scared to let go of what I thought was best for me. But when I did, I found truly the best group of humans waiting to love and embrace me. Women who encourage me in ways I hadn't experienced, given wisdom I didn't know I needed, and loved me in the way that only true soul sisters could.

Your community if you haven't found it yet is waiting on the other side of letting go. It sounds counterintuitive I know, but it is there. And today I want to say thank you with a heart full of gratitude and love to the incredible women I call friends that make up my community.

This session came about at the spur of the moment. We had completely different plans for our time in the studio, but it was so dark that I brought out the lights and voila! Magic happened.
