HOW TO CHOOSE A BOUDOIR PHOTOGRAPHER
THAT'S PERFECT FOR YOU
Featuring the Ravishing Miss J
Boudoir Photography once upon a time was a very niche and rare expertise for a photographer to specialize in. But in the last few years nearly every photographer is learning how to better serve the clientele that is women who want to invest in empowering and encouraging themselves. You just have to do a quick Facebook and Google search and you can find hundreds of incredible photographers that offer or specialize in boudoir photographer. But how do you choose when the options are so vast and so many! Don't worry! I am here to help give you insight into what I believe are key things to consider when looking for a boudoir photographer! Why trust me? I have over 7+ years in the business so I have seen, heard, and most likely done it all!
1. PORTFOLIO
First things first, always check the portfolio. Are you able to see your skin tone, your body type, your age in the photographer's photos? Do you like how the photographer has framed, posed, lighted, and showcased the women in their photos? Do you like the photographer's style? Are the photos in the style how you would want your final images to look?
The portfolio is a great starting point to gain an idea of what the photographer has to offer as far as final images. However, an important thing to remember is that portfolios are like art galleries - there are tons of unseen art in the basement that doesn't pass the "curation" test. So, don't be afraid to reach out to a photographer and ask to see more!
2. CONNECTION
Another thing to help you choose your perfect boudoir photographer is connection. When you go through their website, their Instagram, or any other social media they might have, do you feel like you could connect with them? Do you connect with their mission and values? Is there authenticity and honesty? And do you feel trust in them as a person, photographer, and business?
That's a huge thing - Trust! Boudoir is all ready a very intimate and vulnerable type of photography. There needs to be a foundation of trust with you and the photographer. That's why being able to connect is important so you can build that trust!
3. COMMUNICATION
Communication is something huge that can deter me from working with someone. I always think it's important that potential clients, current clients, and returning clients feel they have an open avenue of communication with their photographer. When it comes to boudoir photography, being able to ask questions, voice concerns, or find some guidance is huge. You want to make sure you as a client don't feel belittled, small, or even dumb but rather through every email, phone call, text, and comment you feel empowered!
Most women have NEVER done a boudoir session so they truly don't understand the process. For most boudoir experiences, there is more than just showing up day of your session. You want to make sure you have a photographer who can "hold your hand" if you need during the entirety of your boudoir experience - from planning to product!
4. EXPERIENCE
It's important to first know what you want from your boudoir experience. Why do you want to do a boudoir session? Are you doing it for yourself or for someone else? Do you want art of yourself? Are you looking for an experience or just to get some fun photos? There isn't a wrong answer to any of this! You will just want to know this so you can find the photographer who can give you what you are looking for! Do you want extra help picking outfits? Are you wanting to be spoiled with hair and makeup? How many outfits do you want to play dress up in? When looking for a boudoir photographer, it is important that whoever you choose can offer you exactly what you are looking for.
Take your time when looking through potential photographers. Do not settle on your experience!
